The Fit, the Dye, the Questions Buyers Actually Ask
Denim shrinks 3–5% after the first wash — why won’t my fit drift?
Because the jean is cut to the settled dimension, not the raw one. Shrinkage is measured against the dimensional-stability standard (capped at 3–5%) before the pattern is graded, and the jean is built to what it measures after a wash — not off the loom. So what the customer buys is what the sampler approved, after washing and wear, not a raw jean that tightens two sizes down the line.
Batch to batch, will the indigo match?
Indigo is the hardest colour to hold across runs. Reorder fabric is bought on the same production run as the original to avoid a dyelot shift, and a physical shade standard — a lab-dipped swatch — is locked into the tech pack. Bulk is checked against that swatch under a 4-point lightbox before it is cut; a drifting batch does not ship.
My reorder should whisker and fade exactly like the sample — can you hold it?
Yes — laser-etch is fully repeatable, and hand whiskering is held to a photographed spec. The approved sample is kept as the master and creases are set to the same crease map, so fade arcs and knee honeycombs land in the same place on every pair. What gets signed off is the exact standard the reorder is built to.
Will the rivets and buttons corrode in the stone or acid wash?
Not if they are chosen for the wash. Plated zinc and copper hardware are selected to survive stone, acid and chlorine runs — tested through the wash cycle before bulk, not after — with nickel-free options for skin contact. A hardware failure is a brand-damaging one, so it is gated before it is sewn in.
Rips and distressing look different pair to pair — is that random?
No. Laser and ozone distressing are reproducible: the same artwork yields the same rips. Hand-distressing is graded to a photographed low-to-high spec, so a collection reads uniform rather than uneven — the torn or faded areas are set to a reference, not left to the operator.
Can you do true selvedge, or is that just a sewn-on stripe?
True selvedge, not a printed seam. The jean is finished on the selvedge edge of shuttle-loom denim, so the ID stripe is the fabric’s own edge — the detail heritage lines are priced on. It sits at a higher tier for the fabric cost, not faked.
The sample wash looked right but the bulk came out different — how do you stop that?
It is the number-one perceived quality failure in denim, and it is a contractual matter, not a hope. The approved wash is the standard the order is held to — if bulk comes off the line a shade off, it is reworked at no cost. That is set out up front, so the finish is not a best-effort approximation but a measurable line the shipment has to hit.
